Children

Children are the most important people in school sport. Playing for your team or representing your school is an honour. The target is to win, but not to win at any cost. Fair play and respect for all others is fundamentally important.

As a child participating in a fixture / event / competition I will always;

1. Try my best.

2. Abide by the rules outlined before the fixture / event / competition.

3. Respect the decision of the referee, official or judge.

4. Respect my opponents, coach, teacher and spectators.

5. Treat others the same way I would like to be treated myself.

6. Regard it as an honour and privilege to be representing my school team.

7. Take pride in my performance and that of my school.

8. Encourage others to do well and be the best they can be.

9. Accept victory modestly and accept defeat graciously.

10. Shake hands with your opponent at the end of each fixture / event / competition.

11. Thank the referee, official or judge for their efforts.

12. Enjoy the event.

I understand that I may not be able to take part in any future fixtures, events or competitions.

Parents & Spectators

Parents & Spectators have a great influence on children’s enjoyment and success in sport. All children play sport because first and foremost they love to do it – it’s fun. It is important to remember that however good a child becomes at the sport, parents & spectators should continue to encourage them in a positive and appropriate way.

 As a parent or spectator at a fixture / event / competition I will;

1. Understand attendance at a fixture / event / competition is a privilege.

2. Remember that children participate to have fun and that the fixture / event / competition is for their learning and progression purposes.

3. Inform the coach of any physical injury, disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

4. Be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every fixture / event / competition.

6. Not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent, such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures.

7. Teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

8. Teach my child that doing one's best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.

9. Refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.

10. Respect the officials and their authority and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches and referees at the fixture / event / competition.

11. Be aware of competition rules and keep winning in its proper place.

12. Accept victory modestly and defeat gracefully – remember that your team / school will be judged by your actions.

13. Respect other spectators, coaches, teachers and participants.

14. Do not interfere with instructions given by the coach / teacher in charge of the team.

I understand that I maybe unable to spectate at any future events, competitions or fixtures if I am in breach of any of the above guidelines and maybe be asked to leave the venue. 

Teachers, Staff & Coaches

Adults in charge of teams directly affect the behaviour of children under their supervision. They should pay due care to their conduct and be aware that their every-day decisions and actions have ethical implications.

As a teacher, member of staff or coach at a fixture / event / competition I will…

1. Promote the emotional and physical well-being of the children ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child or team to win.

2. Respect the officials and their authority during fixtures / events / competitions and will never question, discuss, or confront them at the fixture / event / competition. If I have a problem I will speak to the event organiser.

3. Display good sportsmanship at all times.

4. Display high standards of behaviour and appearance.

5. Be a good role model for those in my care.

6. Be responsible for my actions.

7. Encourage children and spectators to display a sports person like attitude.

8. Guide and encourage children to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.

School Grounds and Facilities

Many events we take part in are at Sevenoaks School, Knole Academy or other sports venues in Sevenoaks.  Whilst taking part in events, teaching, coaching, spectating or competing please look after the sites and venues.

As a user of different sports venues for fixtures / events / competitions I will…

1. Respect the school or other site, the facilities and surrounding areas.

2. Ensure my rubbish and property is taken with me when I leave.

3. Not smoke on the premises.

4. Not bring any animals except service animals onto the site, unless it is a permitted venue

5. Park appropriately at the school or venue and surrounding roads.

6. Will not cover neighbour’s driveways when picking up or collecting children.

7. Supervise any other children I bring with me to the fixture appropriately to ensure their safety and good behaviour.

8. Not allow my children to damage play equipment, climb on goals etc.
